Markus Leikola is a Helsinki based writer, author and playwrite at home with different genres. He often combines thorough fact-finding research of political and social issues with fundamental core themes of what it takes to be a human being. His drama repertoire covers various setups, such as five actor musical and music dramas Unbreakable Union (a black music satire of the history of the Soviet Union, the title referring ironically to the first words of the Soviet state anthem), More Modern Times (on modern digital working life, adaptation based on Chaplin's film Modern Times, with license from the Chaplin Family) and Tragedy 1918 (taking place during the Finnish civil war), or two actor chamber plays taking place in present day Russia such as Weather Station (climate change on the Arctic Ocean coast) and Closest Neighbour (on freedom and captivity during Alexei Navalnyi's prison experiences) as well as a one female actress touring-ready music drama Black Hole (on the opression history of Karelian language speakers) and a comedy drama that premiered in Santa Monica, Ca., in English, Snow Leopard's Den (whistleblower Edward Snowden's adventures in the turmoil of big power politics).
