The Potato EatersKartöfluæturnar
- Translation: Smith, Lytton
Lísa is respected and admired for her work on behalf of women who have been subjected to violence both in the war in Kosovo, where she worked as a war nurse, and in peaceful Reykjavík. Over the years, she has developed an addiction love and sex that she has the knowledge to deal with but lacks the courage to solve. Now she has returned home to deal with the past, her daughter and stepson - and to completely redecorate her childhood home.
The play deals with the various faces of the use of power and approaches the dynamic in describing a mother's sincere desire to reconnect with the daughter she left behind when she went to Kosovo. The reasons for Lisa's departure are revealed when her former stepbrother appears in the doorway and also asks for help from her old family. The play deals with the boundaries or lack of boundaries that lie between love and addiction, war and peace.
