Birutė Kapustinskaitė is a screenwriter, director, and playwright.
In 2018 and 2025, she was honoured with the National Golden Cross Award for Best Playwright for her plays “Therapies” and “Stand up for Meaning and Meaninglessness”.
The most exceptional feature of the artist’s works is the vivid characters and the remarkable dialogues, immersive in their natural lightness and tragicomedy.
She has written screenplays for several feature films and TV series, and her plays have been translated into various languages and performed internationally.
Kapustinskaitė’s debut play Terapijos (Therapies) is her most memorable work, which gave a strong start to her career in theatre. It was staged at the Oskaras Koršunovas Theatre (dir. K. Glušajev) in 2017. Later, the play was staged at the Dream Theatre in Seoul, South Korea (dir. Insoo Lee) and translated into various languages since.
Kapustinskaitė’s short film Mothers and The Nominees have been selected for over fifty film festivals worldwide and received multiple awards.
She is actively working across film, theatre, and interdisciplinary projects as both a writer and director. Since 2023, she is the Head of the Screenwriting Department at the Lithuanian National Film School..
